What Moving Stories Films Advisors Are Saying…
I liked the story being told, and the pieces with the Japanese girl were artfully done.

ABOUT THE FILM: Elegantly shot, directed and edited in Los Angeles by Bert Kish, The Gargoyle: Sei’s Story captures one of many exotic mythical threads woven by Davidson in his debut novel. We meet Marianne Engel, a mysterious sculptor of gargoyles who enters and re-enters the life of the nameless narrator, a suicidal burn victim. We also meet Andrew Davidson himself, as he reflects on the story of Sei, the beautiful Japanese glassblower enmeshed in a dilemma of love and loyalty, which he narrates for the viewer.
ABOUT THE FILMMAKER:
Bert Kish made his move to the director’s chair after a very distinguished career as a picture editor. He cut such notable shows as ‘La Femme Nikita’,‘Power Play’ and won the Gemini for his work on John Woo’s ‘Once a Thief’. His feature credits include ‘Top of the Food Chain’ and ‘Cypher’ starring Lucy Liu and Jeremy Northam. His fist directorial assignment was an episode of ‘Power Play’, which was nominated for a Gemini for Best Director.
ABOUT THE BOOK: An extraordinary debut novel of love that survives the fires of hell and transcends the boundaries of time. On a burn ward, a man lies between living and dying, so disfigured that no one from his past life would even recognize him. His only comfort comes from imagining various inventive ways to end his misery. Then a woman named Marianne Engel walks into his hospital room, a wild-haired, schizophrenic sculptress on the lam from the psych ward upstairs, who insists that she knows him. And so Marianne Engel begins to tell him their story, carving away his disbelief and slowly drawing him into the orbit and power of a word he’d never uttered: love.
